Where Are We in 2012?

Back to We Say

'It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first' - Ronald Reagan

Well, the 'minority' ALP Government lurches from pillar to post and just 'hangs in'. The unbelievable spending excesses of this Government, the quagmire they have made on the asylum seeker debacle, the ludicrous minerals tax proposal, the unnecessary 'carbon tax' scheme, the ban on live cattle exports, the industrial relations 'sleeper' that exists, the 'Swansong' to get the budget in surplus in 2012 (or was it 2013?), the 'green/brown' meanderings, one wonders what other lunatic schemes may arise. In the light of the current financial climate, one worries what new 'rescue attempt' the Government will dream up. The crisis of confidence seems sure to envelope the Government and now the Treasurer comes out with his absurd statements about 'fairgo for Australians' - what about military superannuants? His union mates are OK. How much longer can Australians put up with such incompetence? Of course, now, with the economy under such stress, any change to military superannuation will be way off the radar scope. If unions gain more 'priviliges' under the increasingly discredited Fair Work Australia benefits, the Government may be placed on the 'back foot'. Parachuting Bob Carr into the Foreign Minister's job won't save this Government.

The Fairgo4Veterans campaign by DFWA and the RAAF Association is continuing as the Government lurches from bad decisions to even worse - no mention of the indexation of superannuation. However, military superannuants do not forget and are very unhappy with the lack of response from the ALP minority Government.

Now that Kevin Rudd is on the back bench, any pretext that the Government had about empathy for ex-Service men and women are now totally vacuous. For some years, veterans have advised their local members that they deserve a fairgo on Military Superannuation and that failure to address the situation will not be well received by veterans.

The fairer indexation for old age and service pensioners is good news. However, when the Government spouts what they have done for veterans and their pensions, they only tell half the story. They do nothing for veterans and ex-service members who receive military superannuation, that is, those who have paid for their superannuation. They are very angry that the Government ignores their situation. When one minister said, offhandedly, that we can go on the social security supplement, members become further incensed at such impertinent, ignorant and ill-informed comments.

'There are deep-seated problems that cannot be swept away by the 'parachuting-in' of Bob Carr as foreign minister'

"During most of the years of the Howard government, the Labor opposition ran a self-delusional narrative that John Howard was hated, hateful, unpopular, a liar, unelectable and against immigration and workers. It was a false narrative at odds with his electoral success but encouraged by an anti-Howard commentariat. The Labor Government is now in danger of doing what it did in opposition by believing a false narrative built on its own spin about its policies, politics and personnel" From an article by Dennis Shanahan in The Weekend Australian, March 3-4, 2012.

The Labor party seems to think it is the saviour of Australia, from what, only they can conjure up. They believe their own rubbish and spin that they are the only ones suitable to govern Australia. Yet, more than 60% of voters think differently. To hear Bob Carr and Kevin Rudd say that they must stop the potentially 'bad and vicious' future Abbott government is inflammatory and impertinent and requires retraction. The next election will render many of the peddlars of such garbage, out on their proverbial. The insidious creep of unionists in the socialist government is very disturbing - few have any business experience and the government's modus operandi is to give the unions much control over business and the future of Australia. Unionists are a minority in the country yet they are involved in more decisions, even in attempting to control management decisions.

Australians should be very worried where this Labor government is taking Australia. But, the 2013 election will sort the problem out, unless the Gillard government implodes earlier, which is quite possible.

A good word to describe the current situation: INEPTOCRACY, defined as:

"A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers".
